Treating a room or apartment will not keep pests away if the space continues to provide an environment that is conducive to their survival. The University is not liable for personal property loss or damage due to pest infestation and/or extermination. Residents who introduce pests such as bed bugs into on-Grounds housing may also be held responsible for the extermination costs. If a pest infestation spreads due to a failure to report the issue, the residents living in the room or apartment where the problem originated may be held responsible for the extermination costs. Your personal belongings will not be sprayed, and the maintenance staff will not move your belongings in order to spray. If the problem is in your closet, please remove any shoes and clothing from the closet’s floor and side wall areas. The specific space reported will be sprayed, and a note will be left in your room or suite indicating that the space you reported was sprayed. Areas most often treated are baseboards, closets, or behind the stove and refrigerator. If the exterminator determines that treatment is necessary, the area of concern will be treated.
